Designed and made in his Brooklyn studio, Forrest Lewinger of Workaday Handmade creates functional ceramics for the home. While originally pursuing performance based music and sculpture, he was in need of extra work and was hired on as production assistant for a high-end ceramicist.
Questioning what it means to be an artist without any time to make art, he began devoting his lunch hour to explore routine and process by creating one blue pot per day. This mundane effort is the definition of work·a·day, but it wasn't long before his community wanted his 'lunch pots' and Workaday was no longer a chore, but a project with a following.
We visited his studio to get the behind the scenes look. We also picked up thirteen one-of-a-kind vases in a variety of blues–a reinterpretation of his inaugural assignment.
